Injury Prevention is often overlooked, but is the first phase of trauma care. Several organized programs exist in Western North Carolina to address injury prevention, first aid, and safety. The MATRAC works closely with those organizations to support their efforts.
Safe Kids WNC, a member of Safe Kids Worldwide, is a local coalition of more than 20 community partners working together to prevent accidental injuries among children. Accidental injury is the number one cause of death and injury among children aged 14 and under. Through community action, public awareness, education, and public policy initiatives, Safe Kids WNC is creating a safer community for children. Safe Kids WNC focuses on traffic injury (passenger, pedestrian, and bicycles), poisoning and choking, fire and burns, drowning, falls. Safe Kids WNC provides educational materials to the community through school programs, community events, and injury prevention classes. As funding allows, Safe Kids WNC is also able to provide financial assistance with safety devices, including car seats and bicycle helmets.

BIANC The mission of the Brain Injury Association of NC is to offer help, hope and a voice for people with brain injuries and their families. Prevention is the only cure for brain injury. Life is meant to be lived but being safe is key – always wear your seatbelt, always wear your helmet, do not ignore warning signs after being injured and seek medical attention when it is recommended. Land of Sky Regional Council, Area Agency on Aging
The Land-of-Sky Regional Council Area Agency on Aging (AAA) is the designated regional organization to meet the needs of persons over 60 in Buncombe, Henderson, Madison, and Transylvania counties, by the North Carolina Division of Aging and Adult Services. There are 17 AAAs in North Carolina and over 600 in the United States.
